Baskin: The Browns are an NFL team again

Andy says the Browns turnaround under John Dorsey has renewed his faith in Cleveland sports

The Browns have finally returned to the NFL. It's been a long time. A really long time.  We have had little things to make Browns fans feel like we have returned.  A move here, a Johnny Manziel mistake here, an Alex Mack injury over there. One stinky playoff game since 1999.

But, for the first time in a long time the Browns actually feel like they are in the NFL. Not just a fake "bye" on other teams' schedules..

I remember sitting on the stairs talking with my Dad while he was shaving back in 1985. I was so excited to retell Pete Franklin explaining on the radio how the Browns had landed Bernie Kosar.  For the first time in almost 24 years I have that feeling again.

Landing Odell Beckham Jr. and Baker Mayfield in less than 12 months has restored my faith in Cleveland sports and the Browns, only to the likes of getting LeBron James the first and second time.

It's crazy to sit here and think of how an 0-16 team is now being called the favorite with the Patriots to win the AFC this year on NFL Network. Also to here them say this is the biggest trade in NFL history.

Sure they gave up a first round pick. But wash that with adding Minnesota free agent end Sheldon Richardson, and I'll take the experience every time. Yes they gave up a third round pick, but they had two picks.

I wish we could have seen more of Jabril Peppers but Gregg Williams had him lined up in the Muni-lot and the "Pit" on most plays and he never panned out to be what we wanted him to be.

Ultimately, how this trade works out is yet to be seen. Tonight it is fun to be proud to be a Browns fan.  It's a long time coming. Thank you, General Manager John Dorsey on paper for giving Browns fans real hope for the future.. At least for tonight.
