Cleveland, OH (92.3 The Fan) – Baker Mayfield was named Pepsi Rookie of the Week for the fifth time this season on Friday.

Mayfield completed 18 of 22 passes for 238 yards and a touchdown in the Browns’ 26-20 victory over Carolina last Sunday. It was the second time this season hat Mayfield threw 5 or fewer incompletions.

Mayfield also won the award, which is based on fan voting among 5 weekly nominees, in Weeks 3, 7, 9 and 12.

The Browns have had 9 rookie of the week winners – 2 shy of tying the league record of 11 shared by Washington (2012) and New Orleans (2017). Nick Chubb (Weeks 4 and 10) and cornerback Denzel Ward (Weeks 1 and 5) have won twice.

Guest speaker – Former Lakers legend Kobe Bryant spoke to the team on Friday at their team hotel in Denver.

Pictures of Bryant’s visit hit social media Friday evening, including the Browns official account thanking him for spending time with them prior to their primetime matchup against the Broncos Saturday night.

Browns punter Britton Colquitt (179,390) and rookie cornerback Denzel Ward (362,185) received the most votes at their respective positions for the AFC.

Saints quarterback Drew Brees beat out Kansas City’s Pat Mahomes for the most overall votes with 1,270,631 total votes while Mahomes finished with 1,197,370 votes.

Giants rookie running back Saquon Barkley, the o. 2 overall pick in the draft, finished fourth in voting with just under 1 million ballots cast.

Fan voting comprises 1/3 of the process. Votes from coaches and players also account for 1/3 each.

Pro Bowl rosters will be announced Tuesday night.
