Browns officially sign QB Drew Stanton

Team also signs WR Jeff Janis from Green Bay

Cleveland, OH (92.3 The Fan) – The Cleveland Browns signed quarterback Drew Stanton and receiver Jeff Janis Friday the team announced.

Stanton, a 12-year veteran out of Michigan State, agreed to a two-year contract on Sunday.

A second-round pick in 2007 by Detroit, Stanton spent the first five years with the Lions, the 2012 season with the Colts and the last five years with Arizona.

It is expected that Stanton, who has appeared in 38 games – 17 starts – that has seen him throw for 4,059 yards with 20 touchdowns throughout his career, will serve as Tyrod Taylor’s backup QB this season. He went 3-1 last season for Arizona as a starter.

Janis was selected in the seventh round of the 2014 NFL Draft by Green Bay. He has appeared in 16 games each of last three years for the Packers and 51 games total.

Janis has totaled 17 catches for 200 yards and a touchdown to go with 22 special teams tackles and 23 kickoff returns for 568 yards.
