Cleveland, OH (92.3 The Fan) - The Cleveland Indians have acquired CF Leonys Martin and RHP Kyle Dowdy from the Detroit Tigers in exchange for SS prospect Willi Castro, the team announced Tuesday.

Martin, 30, is slashing .251/.321/.409 in 336 plate appearances this season with nine home runs and seven stolen bases. He has posted 3 defensive runs saved in CF in 2018, with 49 in his career. His nine outfield assists in 2018 are tops in baseball this season, and 59 since 2013 place him in a tie for 2nd in MLB.

Martin is arbitration eligible in 2019.

Dowdy, 25, was a 12th round selection by the Tigers in 2015, and has allowed 50 earned runs over 95 innings (4.74 ERA) in 24 appearances between Double-A Erie and Triple-A Toledo this season. The righty has struck out 92 hitters in 95 innings this season. Dowdy was a Midwest League (A) All-Star in 2016 and a Florida State League (A+) All-Star in 2017.

Castro, 21, was the 12th-rated prospect in the Indians system according to FanGraphs, projecting a 45 future value with above average fielding at shortstop. In 410 plate appearances at Double-A Akron, Castro is slashing .245/.303/.350 with five home runs and 13 steals.
