Indians exercise option on Carlos Carrasco, decline Brandon Guyer’s

Cleveland, OH (92.3 The Fan) – The Cleveland Indians announced they have exercised the 2019 club option for $9.75 million on RHP Carlos Carrasco and declined 2019 club option of $3 million on OF Brandon Guyer.

Carrasco, 31, excelled in 2018 appearing in 32 games for the Indians while sporting a 3.38 ERA over 192 innings pitched. He struck out a team high 231 batters, which ranked him seventh in Major League Baseball and had a WHIP of 1.14, 14th in MLB.

Carrasco struck out 200 batters or more for the third time in four years for the Indians in 2018 and had the fifth best strikeout to walk ratio in baseball with a 5.37. The Indians hold $9.5 million club option for the 2020 season.

Guyer, 32, comes off a season where he played 104 games for the Indians, hitting .206/.300/.371with 7 HR and 27 RBI. He has never seen more than 385 plate appearances in season season for Tampa Bay and Cleveland and will receive a $250,000 buyout from the Indians to become a free agent.
