Cleveland, Ohio (92.3 The Fan) – The Browns will be without one of their top defenders Monday night against the Jets.

Safety Damarious Randall has been ruled out of the game after reporting Saturday morning to the team’s facility with concussion-like symptoms. He has been placed in the league’s concussion protocol.

Eric Murray likely will replace Randall, who expressed his animosity towards former Browns and current Jets defensive coordinator Gregg Williams in interviews with the Elyria Chronicle-Telegram and this week, in the starting lineup.

Defensive end Chris Smith returned to the team Saturday and was a full participant in practice following the tragic death of his girlfriend and mother of their month-old daughter in the early hours of Wednesday morning.

It has yet to be determined if Smith, who played nine snaps in the Week 1 loss to the Titans, will be active and play. He is officially listed as questionable by the team.

With linebacker Adarius Taylor ruled out with a high ankle sprain, rookie Mack Wilson will replace Taylor at SAM (strongside linebacker) in the base defense Monday night.

Running back Dontrell Hilliard has also been ruled out with a concussion meaning the Browns will go into the game with just two running backs – Nick Chubb and D’Earnest Johnson, who is also expected to handle return duties on special teams.

Backup offensive tackle Kendall Lamm is also out with a knee injury.

Guard Joel Bitonio, receiver Rashard Higgins and backup quarterback Drew Stanton are all questionable. Bitonio has been limited by an abdominal injury and Higgins a knee injury all week. Stanton suffered a knee injury this week and was limited in Saturday’s practice.

Kicker Austin Seibert was added to the injury report with a right hip injury, but he was a full participant Saturday and he is expected to play along with receiver Odell Beckham Jr. and defensive tackle Larry Ogunjobi.
