Cleveland, OH (92.3 The Fan) – While everyone tried to figure out what LeBron James will do next month, former NBA star Gary Payton has a theory.

Payton dropped a bombshell in an interview with Sheena Quick of Black Sports Online and Quick Out the Blocks that may shed some light on where James may be headed.

“Anything can happen, people don’t look at everything,” Payton said in the interview, which was conducted on May 19. “His son just committed to Sierra Canyon, which is in the valley of LA, that's where his son is gonna go to school with Scottie Pippen's son and Kenyon Martin's son. So, that’s a move that they’re going to make.

“If everybody looks at it -- a son at that age, you don't want to be away from him for that period of time.

"He needs a father during that time ... I think he wants to be around his son a lot, see his son a lot so that’s going to play a key factor too."

Sierra Canyon School, which has denied that James Jr. has enrolled according to Chris Martin Palmer of Spectrum Sports in Southern California, is a private school located in the Los Angeles suburb of Chatsworth, California that enrolls students from preschool through 12th grade.

LeBron James Jr., 13, will be entering eighth grade this year while his other son, Bryce, is about to turn 11 and his daughter Zhuri is 3.

James owns a home in Los Angeles and his production company, SpringHill Entertainment, is Los Angeles-based as well.

The Lakers will have over $60 million in salary cap space available this offseason, meaning they have the ability to sign 2 max-contract players as free agents.

James made it clear Friday night just how important of a role his family will play in his decision and if Payton is right about James’ son’s plans for school, we may have our first clue where James is headed.
