Cleveland, OH (92.3 The Fan) – Gregg Williams liked to joke about the multitude of job offers and opportunities that come his way over the years but it didn’t take him long to find his next job.

Williams joined the New York Jets as their defensive coordinator. The team announced the hire Wednesday and he will receive a 3-year deal to join Adam Gase’s staff in New York.

Williams, who took over as interim coach in Cleveland after Hue Jackson and Todd Haley were fired on Oct. 29, led the Browns to a 5-3 record down the stretch.

He was 1 of 7 candidates to interview for the job before the Browns elected to promote former running backs coach and offensive coordinator Freddie Kitchens to the post on Jan. 9. Kitchens was formally introduced on Monday.

Cleveland’s defense finished ranked 30th in yards per game, 28th against the run and 25th against the pass this past season.
