CLEVELAND, Ohio (92.3 The Fan) – Kevin Stefanski’s coaching staff makeover continues.

Stefanski and the Browns are “on track” to hire San Francisco 49ers defensive backs coach Joe Woods to replace Steve Wilks as defensive coordinator ESPN reported Sunday.

Cleveland’s defense ranked 22nd in yards allowed, 30th against the run, seventh against the pass, and 20th in points allowed under Wilks in 2019.

Woods, who was an assistant coach at Kent State back in 1997, worked with Stefanski in Minnesota from 2006-13 where he was the Vikings’ defensive backs coach.

Stefanski is also set to hire former Dolphins offensive coordinator Chad O’Shea to replace Adam Henry as the team’s receivers coach and also assume the role of passing game coordinator according to multiple reports.

O’Shea, who also worked with Stefanski from 2006-08 with the Vikings, followed Brian Flores from New England to Miami last year but was fired after one season. Miami ranked 22nd in scoring and 27th in yards per game last season.

Stefanski and the Browns have yet to announce any coaching staff changes or hires.

It is expected that Stefanski will retain special teams coordinator Mike Preifer, another Minnesota Vikings alum, after helping turn around one of the worst units in the league in 2018 last season.
