Indians' bats go cold in 1-0 loss to Royals

The Indians' win streak ends at six games

CLEVELAND, Ohio – It was a hot day at Progressive Field, but the Indians’ bats went cold. Cleveland was shutout by the Royals 1-0; ending their six game winning streak.

It was the eighth time the Indians have been shutout this season. They finished with just three hits. Kansas City starter Jake Junis had success all night long, allowing just two hits in six innings and finishing with seven strikeouts.

Greg Allen gave Cleveland a chance in the seventh with a two-out double, but Tyler Naquin struck out to end the inning. Francisco Lindor and Jason Kipnis had the other two hits [both singles> for the Tribe.

Adam Plutko got the start for the Indians. He allowed one run and two hits in seven innings. Plutko gave up a home run to Hunter Dozier in the first inning and rebounded to have his best start of the season.

José Ramírez saw his 11-game hitting streak come to an end, finishing 0-for-4. Everyone in the Indians' lineup struck out at least once [12 total>.

Tyler Clippard and Nick Wittgren pitched two scoreless innings combined. Clippard allowed three hits, but didn’t allow a run. Wittgren allowed the first two runners on in the ninth, but got a key double play to get out of the jam.

The Indians fall to 56-41 on the season. They’re 6-3 since the All-Star break.  

Up Next – The Indians look for the series win on Sunday afternoon. Zach Plesac will make his 10th start of the season. He’s 3-3 on the season with a 3.56 ERA. Glenn Sparkman will start for the Royals. He enters with a 305 record and a 4.54 ERA.
