CLEVELAND, OH – The Indians plan on activating Carlos Carrasco from the 60-day injured list on Sunday, manager Terry Francona told MLB Network Radio on Wednesday.

Carrasco, 32, hasn't pitched since being diagnosed with leukemia earlier this season. He's been on the injured list since June 5.

"The plan is to activate (Carrasco) on the first, which is Sunday," Francona told MLB Network Radio. "If all goes well with his last bullpen outing, we'll pitch him out of the bullpen."

Carrasco has made three rehab appearances, allowing one run in 3⅔ innings.

"He seems so excited to be pitching again, and we're excited to have him," Francona said. "He's a big part of us. He knows that and he knows he's cared about. But it's going to be fun having him back."

Carrasco is 4-6 on the season with a 4.98 ERA in 12 starts this year. The Indians signed him to a contract extension last offseason.
