LeBron responds "I already know there is no place like Akron"

The billboard craze over LeBron James' future continued this week with his hometown now taking action.

A recruiting movement started earlier this year when a Philadelphia company placed 3 billboards in Cleveland as an attempt to woo the King of the NBA to the City of Brotherly Love.

Cleveland responded with their own billboard in downtown near Quicken Loans Arena while Los Angeles got in on the action too. A Lakers fan put up a King themed billboard during NBA All Star Weekend in the City of Angels. 

This time the billboard is down in LeBron's hometown of Akron. Placed by a local realtor along I-77, the message plays on the familiar image of the Wizard of Oz. That would make LeBron the character of Dorothy in case anyone is wondering.

For his part, the Akron native remained grateful when asked about it at Friday morning’s shootaround, “I haven’t seen it but like I said before it’s very flattering.”

He also stayed steadfast to his rule on not commenting on his future plans.

When questioned about the billboards having an effect on his decision, LeBron commented, “I will attack that after the season. My only focus right now is how we continue to improve as a ballclub and put us in the right possible position to compete for a championship.”

LeBron is expected to seriously entertain other teams this July for the first time since coming back to the Cavaliers 4 off seasons ago. Reports have tied him to Philadelphia, Los Angeles and San Antonio with the option to stay home a possibility.

While no one is quite sure what LeBron will do in 4 short months, he wants you to know he needs no reminder on the specialness of his hometown.

“I already know there is no place like Akron.”
