Report: Dan Gilbert and Rick Pitino have spoken about Cavaliers’ coaching vacancy

Controversial college coaching legend reportedly meets with Cavs

Rick Pitnio could be walking through that door as the former college coaching great reportedly met with Dan Gilbert about potentially taking over the Cavaliers’ bench according to Peter Vecsey and Marc Stein.

Pitino last coached stateside at Louisville in 2017 before being fired after coming under investigation for an alleged "pay for play" involving recruits. He landed at Greek powerhouse Panathinaikos B.C., where he has a 23-1 record in Greek League play and a 16-14 mark in the more challenging EuroLeague. 

Pitino coached 6 seasons in the NBA, 1987-1989 with the Knicks and 1997-2001 with the Celtics, and coached 30+ seasons in the NCAA including 20 trips to the NCAA tournament and 2 National Championships.
